Australia's police have ended the search for a young boy who has been disappeared in the wilderness for approximately three weeks, after renewed operations failed to discover any evidence of the child.

The young boy was spotted enjoying himself around his home on a secluded farmland in the vicinity of Yunta, about 186 miles from Adelaide, on 27 September.

His grandmother stepped away for about a short period before returning, only to find the boy gone, triggering one of the largest comprehensive searches in local records.

Law enforcement - who do not believe criminal activity - say they will persist investigating, but that the matter has become a "recovery mission".

Recently, authorities briefly scaled back the operation, only to recommence it on Tuesday alongside 80 military personnel.

"Commissioner authorities said officials were scanning a broader area based on new analyses from medical and rescue specialists, rather than any recent developments."

On recently, police confirmed that the recent operation had not uncovered any signs of Gus.

"The situation that the young boy is a young child, the landscape is very difficult, unforgiving and subject to unpredictable climate has made the searching challenging and more difficult for those engaged," officials said in a release.
