Donald Trump has yet again announced he would urge FIFA to remove global soccer tournament matches from a designated city based on municipal governance, with the Boston region emerging as the most recent such city to receive such threats from the American leader. Furthermore, Trump suggested he would contemplate comparable measures against Southern California for the upcoming Olympic Games due to possible security concerns.

Although Trump lacks official jurisdiction to unilaterally remove either competition, he can apply pressure the international organizations overseeing each event to change host cities.

The comments were made during a press event with Argentina's leader Milei, who was visiting the White House following the disclosure of a $20 billion bailout for the Latin American nation. At the conclusion of the gathering, a journalist inquired Trump about a recent public disturbance in Boston where authorities were attacked and a police vehicle was burned. The correspondent also wondered if such events could lead to the revocation of hosting duties for the larger football competition.

“In cases where a city is failing, and I perceive exist dangerous circumstances, I would call the organization's president, who is phenomenal, and suggest we should relocate it to another location,” the former president said on Tuesday. “And he would do that. He may not enjoy to do it, but he would comply. Very easily, he’d do it.”

FIFA Relationship

The organization's head has been open his attempts to be publicly aligned with the US leader before next year’s tournament, scheduled to be hosted in multiple US locations across the America along with two in the northern neighbor and a few in the southern neighbor. “It’s FIFA’s tournament, our responsibility, we decide such choices,” he said. “Respectfully to national heads, the sport is more important than any individual and soccer will endure their regime and their policies. On Tuesday, Trump’s reply to a question about Boston included a comparable warning regarding the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
