Diving into a Bizarre Steam Demo: Playing as a Turdy Character in a Mission to Find the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and players have encountered plenty of engaging independent titles. But, one catches the eye for its offbeat concept. Titled Unko Technica, this old-school styled side-scrolling game lets you play a hero that is actually a dung attempting to navigate to a restroom. As a fun fact, "Unko" translates to "poop."

Player controls is easy to grasp: just use a one button to leap. In one hundred fifty levels, encounter mini-bosses and visit a shop to acquire customizations for your poop character.

Plan your actions with caution, as a error requires starting over. Leap using air pockets to propel the poop higher, navigate disappearing ledges, and activate buttons to unlock new areas. Collect UN-KOINS to purchase tougher levels where the action gets crazy.

In terms of design, the experience shows off vibrant level designs and an amazing music score. The retro visual style featuring shifting geometric shapes evokes memories of gamers of classic titles like Earthbound.

Even though hard to think of other games where you are a coiled turd, gaming have long featured toilet humor. For instance, in Death Stranding, you can craft explosives from protagonist waste. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ feces as soil enrichment. Naturally, this theme shows up heavily in the adventure The Stick of Truth.

Putting aside its humorous concept, Unko Technica has already earned notable accolades, including being named best at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. This trial version is accessible currently on Steam, with the full game planned to debut on computers this November.
